Most recent awardees.

Edward and Marilyn Schwarz Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice

is designed to recognize outstanding clinical nurses who embody excellence in professional nursing practice. Each year, in conjunction with National Nurses Week, nurses nominate their peers for recognition of their contributions to the nursing profession. Recipients are recognized at an awards ceremony and receive a cash award and certificate. Award recipients are also recognized through nursing newsletters and other institutional publications.

Nursing Scholarship Program

assists registered nurses matriculated in an RN/BSN program, graduate degree granting program, or post graduate nurse practitioner program with support for academic credit that advances their career in nursing. Up to four scholarships may be awarded to the strongest candidates. Scholarships are paid directly to the school and the maximum award is $1500.

The Charlotte Feital Endowment Fund for Professional Development in Oncology Nursing

was established in 1994 by Ms. Feital's family to honor her memory and to recognize excellence in oncology nursing. The fund supports professional development in oncology nursing in one of two ways:

  • Sponsorship of a nurse to attend the annual, national meeting of the Oncology Nursing Society, or a similar meeting which would provide a premier opportunity to learn up-to-the-minute innovations in oncology patient care.
  • Alternatively, a Charlotte Feital Visiting Professorship, which will bring a noted scholar to Beth Israel Deaconess for consultation and a presentation in oncology nursing.

Rhoda and Williams Sapers Endowment Fund

provides financial support for nurses' professional development. This fund recognizes that we are a large and diverse nursing staff and supports nurses attending continuing education programs that are not provided by the medical center. This award is available for nurses working in any practice setting and recognizes and rewards nurses in a very tangible way. The award provides up to $500 for attendance at an educational program.

Jane K. Stewart, RN Continuing Education Fund

honors a critical care staff nurse who worked in the Coronary Care Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for many years, and who died in 1989 after a lengthy illness. Jane, in her will, designated funds for the continuing education of critical care nurses. Awards are presented in the Spring and Fall and cover registration and other expenses for attending programs.

Evelyn Promisel Fellowship Award

provides professional nurses with an opportunity for independent study to initiate or complete a scholarly project. Scholars in all disciplines, including nursing, periodically need uninterrupted time for independent study in order to plan, initiate or complete a special project. Interest from an endowment fund provides financial support for salary and benefits, registration and/or travel expenses associated with off-site activities, secretarial time or audio-visual resources. The exact nature of the project and the associated budget determine how the money is allocated.
